Reflection in July 2022
Coding the Orion Meter took me all the time for the last few months. One reason why it became such a big project is that I keep on inventing yet another feature to add, which then leads to a re-write of good parts of the code. Reading about D&D doesn’t make the project easier! So I picked up the dice idea and some other random coolnesses of that game to implement.
However, the v1 of OM_ONE is released and it works just fine. Time to reflect on what v1.2 or even OM_TWO will be. There are some very good ideas in my head and soon in my scripts.

OM_ONE is now released and runs like a well oiled engine.
Coding the meter took a lot of time away from building the sim, and from creating the communities I have in mind. I take it as part of the experience to learn how much work it actually is to build such a platform, even it is built on top of an existing platform. But in any case, what is growing fast without much of my input is a silly, territorial competition for the few players who exist in this meta space.
It is ok. Still, sometimes lone mysteries find their ways to delightful encounters on one of the many bridges on Pearl Island.
I also started to play a bit more with the lighting model Second Life offers. Skimming along the limitations of a real time, online platform I quickly found myself wishing for more control over the visuals of my island. I managed to create a nicer, darker mood, which I start to like. I will continue to explore what I can do with this.

A view from the Valley to the proud goblin ship in the harbor.
I noticed, that I tend to fill up the gaps with trees. It looks nice, and it is amazing how easy they render these days. The Hide-out forest is growing in the North – East of the Valley.
